Turn the Other Cheek (Matthew 5:38-42)

 A “Third Way” is a creative, alternative response that you choose because you know something the other person doesn’t. Or maybe because you’re embracing something the other person is refusing to embrace.
 It’s not “fight back.” That’s to lower yourself to the level of a brute, thinking revenge will solve it or end it – when it will do neither. And it’s not “do nothing”, which is to accept the oppressor’s skewed view of reality. You don’t want to buy into that.
So it’s not fight and it’s not flight. It’s a third way.
Is the “third way” easy? No. It’s really hard. And what makes it even harder is that for most of our lives we’ve responded in one of the other two ways – we’ve either fought back or we’ve not fought at all. We’ve either been too aggressive or too passive.  
Jesus wants us to fight.  But he wants us to fight differently.
