Why compassion doesn’t make the to do list

Last Sunday I asked our community why compassion so often slips off our priority lists. It’s an interesting question, especially to a church community like ours, because there’s already such a deep level of buy-in on helping others. We already believe we should serve this city. We already want to change the world. But, even we – who are already convinced – rarely do anything. Why is that? The reason I focused on Sunday is the misunderstanding that we need…

Family Experience – Extending the Lesson

Wondering how to help your children extend the lesson from children’s chapel at Emmaus Church in Lincoln, CA on Sunday morning?  Try these: Every night this week focus on one family member. At dinner, have each family member share with that person what purpose he/she thinks God has given that specific family member. Practical Parenting

What an honor and privilege it is to meet with families in our community and share life with them! The past few months have been wonderful getting together with many of the families of Emmaus. I am thankful for your transparency and willingness to open up about what your hopes and dreams are for your children’s spiritual development and what you would like to pass onto them in their journeys with Jesus. What I have seen during this time is…

A Youth Worship Team is Starting at Emmaus Church

Sabrina Nisan and Kait Henning have a passion to blend their love of worship with their love of discipling youth!  Many youth from our 10/13 group and our Ember (high school) group also love music, so it seemed a perfect idea to launch a youth worship team. Darrell and I also have a passion for music and youth, especially since we have 2 musician sons in this age group.  We are excited to host the weekly meetings and practices to…

Three Warnings to Heed

This week, as part of our 35 Days of Prayer, we’re focusing on personal transformation. Here are three warnings to heed as we engage this common journey toward spiritual wholeness: Don’t get side-tracked by counterfeit lovers! (This is biblical language that sometimes refers to people but usually refers to other things that try to seduce us off the trail): the allure of power, the promise of wealth, the false god of comfort.   Don’t get defeated by pain! Pain can…

Common Journey with Emmaus Kids

This week in Emmaus Kids the children will be hearing the Emmaus Road story, focusing in on the two disciples on their way to Emmaus. In Chapel we will be reenacting the story and then tracing our feet and gluing these footprints to a large poster with all the other kids’ feet. We will focus on the idea that we are on a journey and Jesus is with us. We will also introduce the idea of needing to recognize Jesus…
