Focus on Thankful – Focus on Jesus
While the adults covered the topic of The Thankful Have More Time, our chapel lesson paralleled with “Focus on Thankful. Focus on Jesus.” We centered our lesson on Genesis 28:16, “Surely the LORD is in this place and I was not aware of it.” To expand on this point, we discussed that just like air, God is around us even when we don’t see Him. We talked about what we can do to focus and be aware. Parents can further this…
Creativity In Worship
I love it when someone in our Emmaus community is so touched and transformed by a message that God gives them lyrics and even a melody to express what is happening in their heart! This happened recently in my husband, Darrell Haskins, after a message by Nate called “They Reveled in His Glory”. I love the line, “You are here now with us and revel in your presence”. It reminds me of the name for Jesus, Emanuel, meaning “God…

When Things Fall Apart with Emmaus Kids
The Emmaus Kids chapel lesson from Sunday followed the theme of being thankful even when things feel like they are falling apart. We revisited 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “in all things give thanks; for this is God’s plan for you in Christ Jesus.” To expand on this point, we discussed the story of Job. Just like in Job, when it feels like there is nothing to be thankful for, we are to still give thanks to God, for God can take…
An Important Week at Emmaus
There probably isn’t a week in the year that’s more important to make time for God than the week before Christmas. After all, this is the week we celebrate God coming to “be with us.” And yet there probably isn’t a week in the year that’s more difficult to find time for God. In her book, One Thousand Gifts, Ann Voscamp puts it this way, “God gives us time. And who has time for God? Which makes no sense.” This…
